Hey Guys,
As many of you may have seen elsewhere in this forum, I hunted with Joe and Rich a few years ago and wanted to give my impression. Let me preface by stating that I have only been on three out of state hunts all in the past three years. Joe's was the least expensive, another similar type trip to OK was about twice as much, and the third trip to TX was closer to three times as much.
To make things simple I will just rank a few important characteristics and let everyone else decide for themselves which trips they would take on their budgets.
Cost:
Joe's-Working mans shot at fame
OK-Save up and its not bad
TX-Won't spend that money on a TX hunt again
Possibility of booking the trip:
Joe's-This year
TX-This year
OK-Likely 3-4 years min
Opportunity to shoot a 130" buck:
OK-virtually certain
Joes'-virtually certain
TX-unlikely
Opportunity to shoot a 150" buck:
OK-very likely
Joe's-reasonable possibility
TX-unlikely
Opportunity to shoot a 170" buck:
OK-Slim but it happened for me
Joe's-As good as my chances in OK due to better overall genetics
TX-almost impossible
Accommodations:
Joe's-the best
OK-Good
TX-Poor
Food;
OK/Joes-both great
TX-very close
People:
Joes-the best
Ok-Excellent but more reclusive and less "hunting camp"
TX-It's TX..what did I expect..LOL!
Best value for a "decent,(130"+buck)"
Joe's-You can't beat the price considering you have an opportunity at a booner
OK-Excellent, but limit your expectations to 160-170'
TX-I know...I hit a bad spot, but occurs way too often in TX for me to go back unless money no longer matters to me!
Chance of shooting a 130-140" buck on a $2500 Budget
Joes-very good
OK-none
TX-none
While this admittedly is not the "usual" way to qualify an outfitter, it is the easiest way I can do it, completely honestly, here in short order. If anyone would like to contact me personally for a more in depth, honest, review of Joe's hunt, just PM me.
