The economy dealt the final blow to just about all the short mags, boy you don't even hear of anyone buying one these days, I haven't even heard the word mentioned at all of our local sportsmens clubs..maybe everyone found out the in the end they didn't offer that much difference from the old standby 7mmRM and 300 WM...plus all the problems feeding that the little guys caused..I have a model 7 in 300 saum, I think it's the ultimate mountain rifle, short, fast, powerful and super accurate...
My Ruger 270 WSM has no feeding problems. In all honesty I think the 270 WSM is really the only short mag cartridge that fills a hole, it's not quite at 270 Weatherby velocities but a big step up from the 270 Win. The 300 WSM is pretty much identical to the parent case up to 180 gr bullets, heavier than that and the parent case has the advantage, the 7mm WSM is about the same, over 150 gr the parent case gets the nod.
