Default RE: Hey MA JAY

Hunting dogs are hunting dogs. No matter what. Congratulations.

Get the obedience down and keep her in close. Use the checkcord. Have her drag it at all times, so she will forget it' s there. If she ranges out to far, grab it and give it a violent tug while calling her back.

Once she has the commands down you can always consider an ecollar. But if she don' t know what you want, the ecollar won' t help either.

Field bred springers are smart and she is capable of becoming a decent hunter. Just keep at it. It takes normally three month for a pro trainer to train a young dog.

One suggestion, if you take her hunting in the beginning, it would be smart to have somebody else shot the birds and you give the dog your full attention.

Get a few pigeon or pen raised quail, once she is obidience trained and plant them in a field and find a decent shooter. Once she sees the drill and understands how it works you got it made.
