Back in the early 80s, we made them with just regular yarn. I prefer regular yarn because they tend to be a bit lighter.

One thing Id suggest, to add to this process; Put a dab of glue where you knot is. If not, you will start haveing stings fly off. We use to put a dab of barg cement in the middle instead of tieing. We never had a problem with the stings flying. Also, if you have a bow you cannot leave strung, then serve the puffs in place so they will not fall out when you unstring.
