I had a similar experience I shot a doe with a CVA 54 St Louis Hawken. the bullet was a 54 maxie home cast with wheel weights. The shot was head on entered just above the brisket and some how split in halve length ways and lodged one piece in one ham and one piece on the other side just behind the last rib under the hide.. needless to say she dropped. The innards were a mess.
