RE: Recomendations please
I have also had some luck with Bushnell in the past. Currently I am using a Trophy model on a little CZ in .223 without any problems. Though that isn' t exactly a heavy recoiling rifle. Bushnell' s Elite line actually used to be Bausch & Lomb, (a very respected company indeed). I have also had some luck with a number of different Weavers, (though most of them were the old steel tube models....25 or so years ago). Though we did have a more current Weaver 1X3 with a 20mm objective on the wife' s Savage 99/.358 Win. She carried it in Alaska on and off for five years with no problems. Another scope you might want to consider is the new Leupold Rifleman line, (Vari X I). I believe they have two different models a 2X7 and a 3X9 for under $200. I have no experience with these newer Leupolds but I have had excellent service from all the other Leupolds that I have owned. (And if you do have a problem with a Leupold you contact the company, put it in a box along with $10. and return it. I have had to do this twice and the company had the scope repaired and returned in several weeks. Excellent customer service!!!) Don' t be scared off by the fact that I have had to return two Leupold scopes in over 30 years of use. I also once had to return a Zeiss 2.5X10 30mm tube with a 50 mm Objective and a steel mounting rail. (About $1,200. retail.) Of course Zeiss of America paid shipping both ways and I had the scope back in less than ten days. Which just goes to prove that you can have a problem with any priced equipment. The important question to ask is if the company stands behind it' s products in a responsible and expiditious manner. Both of those companies do! I also currently own two Nikon Buckmasters that have been giving me wonderful service. (I believe I paid about $180. @.) Additionally Burris scopes have always been problem free for me, (though you couldn' t actually consider them inexpensive).
Good luck with your search!
