And the same oversight would be needed to be verified that no slave or child labor was used in the production.

It's high time that this country starts holding it's own pants up.
Your opinion is wrong. Free trade means as a consumer I can chose what I want to buy. If u don't like child labor, then don't buy. If you only like environmental friendly companies, then only buy from them. Let your $$s speak. Unfortuantly are dollars do speak as we consumers are greedy and what the best value for our dollar and that is why we buy $5 Chinese stuff compared to $25 American stuff and perpetuate the ability for cheap goods to drowned out American goods.

YOu veiw of even steven is socialism. Guareenteeing companies a market place even when the product is not competitiveis wrong but is why you can buy milk and food produced by the american farmer at rock bottom prices compared to the rest of the world since the Dept of Ag funnels a crap load of your money to farmers to make them viable and keep costs down. The subsidizing of the AMerican farmer keeps developing countries in poverty. Farming is the kingpin to development of a fledgling country. They can't produce and sell food on the market place and survive because of what the American govt does in proping upi the american farmer. Thus we now have to spend billions in foreign aid support countries that we have purposely prohibited from becoming self reliant. Free Trade works both ways.
