I hunted unit 61 when it only took 2 points,The entire area is full of Elk. 4 of us went and we got 4 bulls. There are/ is a camp or 2
up there but a lot of camping sites. Weather is usually not a concern and you surely do not need a guide if you have any knowledge of elk hunting. South west is a good starting place It is NOT a wilderness type area. Logging/fire roads all over the place although a lot are closed to travel. I am envious of you.
