I tend to think you create your luck - not always, but usually. By scouting and doing everything right, you put yourself in a position to have luck on your side and increase your odds. Also, it's more satisfying to feel like you did something to earn your success rather than just falling into it. I suppose it's fun to be lucky at first or from time to time, but over the long run, I'd rather be good.
