You could buy the world's most expensive knife. Or you could buy a $200+ knife; I have several.

My favorite knife for all-around use is the Buck Omni 12 pt. Costs $40, holds a great edge, feels like an extension of my hand. It also feels like you couldn't break it if you tried.
