Hunting in West Virginia is a time-honored tradition. Each year more than 350,000 hunters take to West Virginia's woods to enjoy some of the finest hunting in the eastern United States. With over 90 Wildlife Management Areas providing public hunting on 1.6 million acres it's no wonder that West Virginia has become a destination for nonresident hunters.

The abundance of wildlife populations has allowed West Virginia to enjoy one of the most liberalized hunting seasons in the nation. Big game hunting opportunities abound for white-tailed deer, black bear and wild turkey. And small game hunting opportunity exists for numerous species.

The Mountain State has something to offer all sportsmen. From the back-country hunting opportunities found in the mountains of the Eastern Panhandle, to waterfowl hunting along the agricultural areas of the Ohio and Potomac Valleys this is a sportsmens' paradise.

So you haven't heard too much about hunting in West Virginia. Well, some hunters in fact consider West Virginia the best kept secret in the east. And with deer hunters enjoying a 33% success rate, it's understandable why everyone is so tight-lipped.
