I am going to do a KY gun hunt next year. SO i need a rifle. I have some shoulder issues and was going to get a 3006 Remington 700. But i am thinking a semi auto ar platform 308. Figure it should do fine with deer and hopefully elk. What would you think the make shooting range on a deer or elk would be with a good Ar platform 308 rifle. I know the semi auto cuts range down but i think the Ars are good out far enough for what ever range you would shoot a deer. My plan is a flattop with a bipod and a good scope.
The .308 caliber AR rifles are just as effective at ANY range as the bolt gun counterparts. The question is, What kind of shooting range do YOU have. The gun will be capable of doing some amazing things. Especially the Armalite AR10T or DPMS LR308. The Bushmasters may not be quite the guns at the Armilite or DPMS but they still will put a deer down at 2-300 yards or much more if the shooter is capable.
Be prepared for sticker shock though! the .30 cal ARs are pricey!!!!
