For whitetail it's hard to beat the good ole' .308 winchester. Plenty of velocity and energy out to ranges that the majority of hunters will never shoot at and it's mild on the should. Plus, it's a very popular cartridge giving you multitudes of choices when it comes to rifles and ammo. It's offspring, the 7mm-08 is also a good choice for deer. Both, in my opinion, are over kill for coyotes.
