Default RE: Penetration tests for low KE setups

I believe the Rocket Steelhead is a mech.

Interesting results, 5 shot. Rather astounding how poorly the Stinger and Magnus screw-ins performed in the plywood/rubber.

I' d like to make a suggestion for your consideration. How' s about amending depth of penetration to the full cut width of the broadhead? Most mechs, like the Steelhead, have their full cut width BEHIND the arrow' s insert while fixed blade heads usually achieve their full cut in front of the insert.

Say in your test that a mech head, with trailing ends of the cutting edges of the blades 3/8" behind the insert when open, penetrated 8" . Then a fixed blade head with the full width of it' s blades at 3/8" in front of the insert only penetrated 7.25" . You would say the mech penetrated 3/4" further. Right? However, depth of penetration of the full cutting diameter would have been identical for the two heads.

See what I' m getting at? Depth of penetration is good to know, but penetration of the full width of the head, the part that really does the damage to put an animal down, is more meaningful.
