Default RE: minimum accuracy requirements

I once saw a featherweight M-70 in .270 shoot a three shot group under 1/2" . That was exceptional.

I used to own a shooting range with a machine shop and a reloading bench 100 feet away. Lots of folks came there to sight in their rifles and often stayed the weekend while barrel floating and glass bedding happened.

One guy came there claiming his 7 Mag could hit a nickel at 300 yards. When I got him to the 100 yard bench he proceeded to shoot a group over 3.25" There' s a lot of BS in accuracy and it eventually becomes what' s important to me.

Normally I expect a rifle to show groups under 2" at 100 yards using hunting grade bullets. Most rifles with a little tweaking will do that.

My standard of accuracy is for 1 1/2" at 100 yards using a hunting grade bullet. There' s a lot to be said of the confidence afield knowing that if I do my job, my gun will do it' s job.
