it depends. i always wash my clothes in scent free wash, air them out as much as i can, and spray down with scent killer on my way to the stand. sometimes deer will walk directly on my path to my stand and not know the difference, and sometimes the older bucks or does will smell you even if you're not directly downwind. I think it depends a lot on how mature the deer are, the more experience they have the harder it is to fool their nose.
