I hit a doe 4 years ago in the same area you described and was "lucky " enough to cut the artery under the spine. She only went 50 yards. Hopefully that is your scenario too. Can be damn hard to find a deer in tall grass. As for looking during gun season I would try to look for her but only if I knew where the other hunters were and felt 100% safe about it. Good luck
