Hunting WY on your own can be done quite easily Ralph. However,access to private land is tough. Trespass fees are almost non existent,and good ground has mostly been leased up by Outfitters. I would definately advise against applying for an area with mostly private land unless you have permission in advance. Many a hunter has drawn a tag only to find out he has nowhere to hunt.....
Now,here's the good news. Public land abounds! Particularly National Forest and BLM. Get an application packet from Game and Fish dept. Look at the general areas,and decide where you might want to hunt. Some areas are easy to draw...others may require a couple of preference points. Once you've decided where you plan to apply,talk to the biologist for that area. Prepare questions ahead of time. These guys are very busy,but have always been willing to help.
