The M44 is a carbine, where the 91/30 is a battle rifle, the difference being primarily in the barrel length. They both are chambered for the same cartridge (7.62x54R), but the M44 will have somewhat less muzzle velocity because of the shorter barrel. The difference will probably be about 200 fps give or take. Again, within the suitable range for employing the rather poor iron sights, the performance difference is inconsequential.
