I was able to find a drop in replacement LCD and posted the fix on ChasingGame.com. Much easier than what I tried before.

Fairly simple repair job dealing with 18 screws, only takes about 15 mins.

You'll have a perfectly good display again, but can't guarantee it will crap out again after 1 year (afterall, these are chinese parts)
