story continued:

(i was thinking about it and i cannot remember the details but some of the baits were hit and some were not hit at all the only consistent one being hit was by what we thought was a nocturnal bear at my brothers first bait sight. so it was not as bad as it sounds from what i first wrote.)

Tuesday: day 4 of the hunt. things finially get intersting. bears oh my!!!! we go out in the morning to see the new sights and where they are located but on the way out our guide stops by my spot because he was shocked that i had not seen a bear there yet and low and behold my bait was hit so the guide had me stay put but the rest of them moved to new spots. my brother sat at a new sight on the ground at this spot he sees the first bears of the trip lone cubs. which as most of us know that cubs can make even the bravest man a little uneasy. my brother was no different looking here and there for momma and when the cubs had played all around him in front and behind of him a mere 8 yards from his position on the ground when darkness began to fall my brother did not stick around to see it when the cubs went to the bait he went to the truck to make sure he was not going to tangle with an angry mother in the dark.
i also got my first bear sighting ever. a real good boar for the area of about 250 came in to the bait. he walked up to the bait and stood up on his hind legs behind some brush giving me no ethical shot, looked around and then turned around and left. he must have felt something was wrong because i did not move and the wind was right so he just was uneasy. well this was my one and only bear sighting of the trip.

Tuesday: day 5. even more bears oh my!!!!!! finially the strings fall and the bears feel the wrath.
my cousin who has little hunting experience and never killing a big game animal with any tackle has an up close encounter with a black bear. he was sitting in a tree about 8 ft up and a bear comes into the bait. he does everything right. except keeps his nerves in check. and is unable to connect on the shot. like i said he is a greenhorn so in the heat of the moment he thinks he should get down and check his arrow for blood. (wrong idea) so he mozies over to his arrow and notices it is clean except for dirt. looks to his right and sees a bear watching him at 20 yards and look ahead toward where the bear he shot at and sees another bear looking at him at 60 yards. he panics run to his tree climbs in and gets his gear and high tails it to the truck. he said that he was just so scared and worked up that he had to get out. MEANWHILE down the road a 'piece' or a 'click' or two was my mom. she went bear hunting last year and saw nothing this year she had high hopes. approximately around the same time she has a bear come in and she judges him as a big bear. (keep in mind when i post the pics that it was her first and she had nothing to judge him by.) she was sitting on the ground and he came in gave her a shot and she put it on him. WELL that might be an overstatement but she did kill him. i have to give it up to the rages it did a job on that bear. going in behind the ribs and cutting the spine, clipping the liver and lungs and almost gutting the little bear. i shouldnt call it a little bear (althought thats what it was) because our guide called it a 'darn purdy bear'. MEANWHILE my brother who was supposed to pick me up was trapped in his tree by bears which is good for him but not so good for me. i get out of my tree and stand at the road for about 15 minutes and i decide that i would rather make a moving target rather than a sitting duck so i walk to 1.5mile walk to the main road through wolf and bear country. back to my brother the real excitement. he went back to the stand where the nocturnal bear was (we had trailcams of him every night at the same time) to try his luck and leave the cubs alone. much to his surprise he come in and presents him with no shot. the bucket fell out of the tree and allowed him to lay down facing him giving him no ethical shot. as darkness quickly approaches he catches movement of another much larger bear coming in. and then all holy hell ensues. it was a sow with 3 cubs. she did not take to kindly to the boar there and the boar was not to happy to see her. neither were backing down and the were hissing, growling, and wolfing at each other. as the cubs went up and down trees as mommy told them too. the only problem is everytime they went up and down they got one tree closer to my brother. he finially said i have had enough when they got one tree away about 8 feet away at eye level. the funny thing is that they would not leave he tried to quietly scare them away by beeping the panic button on the truck and even starting the truck. jiggling his keys. coughing nothing seemed to interrupt the chaos down below. finially the flashlight caught there attention and they left.

Day 6: last day of the hunt. my brother switches with me so i could hopefully get a shot at the bears on his stand. my dad who has been skunked so far continued to be skunked and he saw no bear this trip. my cousin got all the action tonight. this time he was better prepared to deal with it but was given no shot as it was a sow with 3 cubs. definitely not the same as the one under my brother as it was 7 miles from the other stand. but she too would not leave. he got stuck in his tree yelling at the bears and they seemed to pay him no mind. my brother pulled up in the truck and my cousin yelled out. "Dave done come in here theres bears and they wont go away." so my brother scared them off and rescued my cousin. MEANWHILE i am finding out the alterior motive for my brother to sit in his spot. to take down his treestand and ladder. my dad who was my pick up person this trip pulled up and sat in the truck. this urked me. all he had to do was come and help carry but nothing i was left to lug all of it out to the truck. errr...

so that was my canadian bear hunting trip in a nutshell
