just wanted to let you know i went to the ranger station in Troy on friday. they were very helpful. area i was interested in was the birkhead mountain wilderness area. it is a walk in area only, found two parking areas at the trailheads, have not gotten into the woods yet, this was just a prescouting trip. from the salisbury area, it is best reached off of route 49 north, seems to be about a four square mile area. will post more as i find out more.
