Default WWII-era revolver

So the nice elderly lady next door asks me to make sure the revolver in her safe is not loaded. I opened the cylinder and showed her it is not, then she tells me she wants to sell it, and is thinking about taking it to a gun show. She does not know how old it is, but said her husband (now deceased) brought it back from WWII. It is in exellent shape, but has a dull grey finish (no visible wear). The barrel displays "38 S&W Special CTG". The serial number is V85445.
Is this an old Victory S&W revolver? I am not interested in buying it, but I don't want someone to rip this lady off. What is the gun worth? All help appreciated.
