Dana, we have a wanton waste law. If you inform the conservation officer of an animal being killed it' s one of their duties to assure that the animal is recovered. I have no problem with the CO flexing a little legal muscle with this one. Now I don' t know the legalities of it but I would assume that the landowner could claim it as their own if they have the proper tags to prevent the wanton waste charge and there is probably very little the hunter could do about it.
