Who has been? What state did you go? What gear did you need?

Looking into going with a buddy in a few years (need time to save money and get in shape lol). Would prefer archery, but depending on who went, may have to settle for rifle, which is still ok since I have 0 elk under my belt. Would love some ideas on states and cost and how you did it?
