I mostly do it out of..
A. Boredom..{ -: while waiting on a shiner bite..
B. Showing the fish something new..I know nobody that fishes here that uses them
C. It's a big fish lure.m.t.hands introduced me to jig fishing 3 years ago
D.I use it as a countdown lure to detect the lakes depth
E. I use it to tell me what the lakes bottom contains..no other lure will do that but the jig..the rubber worm glides over stuff ..the jig..you feel everything..and when I feel rocks..like today..I will anchor and cast 30 times in that stuff..
Ok here's what I do..I anchor about 20 yds away..
1] cast beyond your target..the rest is what I felt the Lord guiding me to do..so He gets the credit..
a. Cast long..and wait a few seconds..some of the bass picked it up on the wait.
b. "Tickle the lakes's floor" move rod tip up to the 11:00 position and down to the 9:30..very small movement for you are imitating a crayfish..they move slow..
You want to try and detect everything from muck, weeds , logs , sand or rocks..the jig will do this ..If you serius structure..there should be fish there..
C. My complete cast and reel in takes about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes..never really times it.I will the next time..
D. I use a 3/16th inch jig..favorite color..Green/ brown with green craw legs .
E. AS I bump it slooooowly in..CAN NOT BE IN A HURRY..you fish a jig where you really expect fish to be at..It's not a look for bass lure ..it's a finesse lure that catches big bass..
F, the hits are weird...
a..hard to detect..you are counting down but your lure never touches the bottom..why??Becasue the jig has already been picked up and he sitting on the bottom or swimming away with your jig..you don't feel nothing..on these bites...watch the line and reel in the slack..and ALWAYS cross their eyes on a jig..but adjust drag accordingly or even 20 pound Power Pro will snap with the sudden jolt.
..b. the wet sock feel...feels like you have a bunch of hydrilla on your jig..when that happens..do nothing ..just hold the pressure lightly..you will then feel the sock swimming.BAM!!Set the hook.
..c some you feel the tick tick..like you are going over tiny rocks..the bass has picked it up OR bluegills are fooling with it..watch the line and treat this as you would a rubber worm..Pull set HARD.
d..brick in the lawnmower bite..Your bringing it in easy...ALWAYS ..old man slow..{ -; THEN BAM!!your thinking wha tin the Heck was that??That is the bite M.T.Hands warned about the Monster of the deep has knocked on your door.He wants that jig bad...Hopefully you didn't freak and pull it out of his mouth..if you leave him alone..he will be pulling your line straight out..take a deep breath and CROSS HIS EYES..
I've also had success flipping and pitching jigs..Today was my best outing yet..WIshed I would have gotten the first bass..MOST bites are like your typical rubber worm bite..but instead of tap tap ..it's tick tick
E.OH I forgot ..one more bite..the one that feels like you are goig over a bunch of marbles..That is the jig bouncing around in the fishes mouth..my 5 1/2 I got posted did that..I felt the marbles and noticed the line was kind of straight..BAM Crossed her eyes..
Also..the fish don't seem to hold on to the jig as long as a worm some do most don't so I take more chances instead of waiting on them to run..Compared to a worm the jig is small..so I suppose the entire lure is in the mouth
and by faith" You must BELIEVE the hook is in the correct position and BY FAITH set that hook good."
Fish with confidence..
