"Should have stopped after 3 shots with the Great Plains. Some tweaking is in order. The Great Plains may shoot better with a bit less powder maybe?"

I use about 85 grs. and that seems to work for me.

How do you like that peep sight? I have been thinking of putting one on my .54 cal. Hawkins Carbine. My only question is how does it work in low light out, in the woods? I was thinking of putting a full buckhorn sight on if the peep sight doesn't work in low light.

rafsob,
I screw out the insert as it gets dimmer while hunting. Lets in more light but it aint like using a scope. I love shooting the peep but it has its limits considering these old eyes. To me this gun is a close-in thicket gun. 75 yds or closer (actually this would do it for 95% of my hunting).

I think I will ease up on the powder next time. That might do it. It will also be a bit kinder to my shoulder!
I may just go and give it a try. That sounds like a good idea about unscrewing the eye piece. Thanks!

Don't drop it!! [&:]
