The best advice I can give you is to subscribe to Eastman's Hunting Journal. Their magazine gives more information then you can imagine!

With that said, I have only hunted Idaho for Mule deer. I am from their. There are some great deer, and tags are easy to come by. Check out the Idaho Department of fish and game web site. They have a program called Access Idaho. Basically it gives people the opportunity to hunt awesome private ground. That is were I would start.
