I see both of your points. In Jake's defense this was the last day of the season, he had worked his butt off to call in 11 other birds for other people. One of the 11 was actually a much better bird than this one. A 23lb double bearded monster, he had his gun on this hunt also and the bird stayed out of the shooters view. Jake waited and made sure the shooter got his shot. Bill had his gun down as this bird was coming in, at 15 yards this was another reason Jake asked. Bill and Jake have been friends for many years, I'm sure Bill was bummed but there were no hard feelings. Jake has already promised Bill a bird for next season.
