The biggest trouble with buying the combo scope/rifle package is that most of the scopes are pure garbage that I wouldn't put on a cheap .22. Last year I got a Rem 700 in .270, camo, with Bushnell 4200 3x9 and rings/base for right at $800 for my grandson. I think it is as good of deer rifle as you can get without sinking another $1000 in it and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an elk or bear with it. Shot placement is the key regardless of the choice.
