There is no product in the world that cannot be made cheaper by adopting a lesser standard of quality in material and workmanship and then selling it for a more competitive price. Kid's back packs and shoes come to mind. Those who only look at the bottom line are prey to those who cut corners. Where safety is concerned a higer standard should be the law. Look up the Ross rifle ofWW1 vintage. It was made the standard issue rifle of the Canadian army. Ross had connections in high places and so got around the oversight issues. These abominations killed and maimed a large number of our soldiers by failing at the breach and blowing the bolt back into the face of the poor man holding it. They did not all fail nor did any fail on the first use, but in combat guns receive significant use in a short time. The "mine hasn't failed yet" endorsement doesn't hold a lot of water IMHO.
