stubblejumper, you are absolutely right... the 7mm HornyHEAVY MAG does muster more umph than that of the 30-06 LIGHT MAG.
I however, was... as stated in the post, not comparing the 7mm heavy mag. and the 30-06 light mag.
The comparison is between the 30-06 light mag. and the every day, run o' the mill, Hornady Brand custom loading 7mm mag.
It makes no sense to compare the hottest 30-06 load with a mild 7mmremmag load.It would make just as much sense to compare the 7mmremmag heavy mag load to a standard 30-06 load.
There is no feasible way one could justifiabley compair the 30-06 Light Magand the 7mm mag. Heavy Mag.in such a way.
The only feasible comparison of the 30-06 and the 7mmremmag cartridges is to either use standard loads for each,or use the light mag/heavy load for each.To do otherwise is a biased and totally useless comparison.
The same would apply if I did a 308win vs 30-06 comparison using the 308 light magnum 165gr load against the standard 30-06 load.The results would be that the 308win load would have superior ballistics.Would that be a fair comparison?It's just as fair as your 30-06 vs 7mmremmag comparison.
