pope the reason bucks are not nocturnal this time of year is because their bodies are not producing as much testosterone, when a bucks testosterone levels reaches a certain level in late summer, early fall it causes the blood flow o their antlers to stop and then their velvet will shed, and they will start turning more nocturnal aswell. But through out the summer bucks are no more nocturnal than doe's but as the summer days grow shorter in length their bodies will start producing more testosterone and will start becomming more nocturnal with each passing day.
