2x10, 3x9 x 40(ish) is spot on. Like mentioned weaver isn't the worst choice to make. However they tend to be a little short on eye relief which may or may not cause issues, maybe something to consider. 3.5-4.0" of eye relief is preferred by many shooters, many who don't shoot the likes of a .338wm

! I have a zeiss conquest 3x9x40 on my 338wm and it has 4" of constant ER. WhileI have had no problems with shorter eye relief scopes onheavier recoiling rifles, I came pretty close in the past while hunting and wanted more this time around. Mine is for the same hunting purpose as you mentionedbut wanted to be able to load up the heavier grain offerings for the .338 if I need it in the future.
