RE: Team # 20 Team Cut n Strut Check In Thread
Went out today for opening day. It was raining and windy so not the best conditions. Saw nothing for the first hour. Then I a hen came out into the field on one side of me, and suddenly I noticed two birds out in the field on the other side of me. I left my binoculars in the truck, so I couldn't tell what they were. I called a few times and they slowly started working their way towards me. I was using a pretty boy decoy, and I think when they noticed the decoy, they started picking up speed, and eventually they were running across the field at me. When they got closer I could see the red head, so I knew they were either toms or jakes. When they got about 75 yards out, I could see the beards swinging, so I knew they were toms. I got my gun pointed out the window, so I could shoot when they got up by the decoys, and then waited until they came into sight. I couldn't see them for a while because I was only looking out of a small window, and all of a sudden I heard them putt. The wind was gusting, and it was making the sides of the blind flap in and out a little, and I think the turkeys may have noticed that and gotten spooked. I eventually could see them, but they veered off, and were about 50 yards out. I decided not to take my chances with the shot, and they eventually left the area. I hunted for as long as I could, which was only until 7:30, and then I left. So ended day one of five. Can't wait to get back out tomorrow.
