I'm totally ignorant when it comes to actually trying to grow clover, so don't take this the wrong way, but I find that absolutely hilarious. I'm sure that you're right, but it's so hard to believe that grass is an enemy of clover when I have been trying for two years to get rid of a couple of small clumps of clover in my bermuda lawn. I can't kill that stuff. I should cultivate it and sell the seeds 'cause this stuff is bullet-proof. I've tried MSMA, 24D, and even Round-Up earlier this season.
