How did the selfbow competition go? I heard they were having a race of some sort, to build a bow and compete with it on the last day?
It's called the "selfbow challenge". You can have your stave as far as floor tillered (no string grooves) on Thursday--or you can start with a raw stave, or anywhere in-between the two. The deal is to finish a bow and compete with it (separate class) that weekend. I did it last year, and got real lucky (won the shoot). The first (and only) selfbow I've ever built--I had a lot of "adult supervision". Turned out great, still shooting it some, may compete with it this coming weekend and at the Howard Hill.
Dunno who won it this year--with the nasty weather and not competeing, I left as the awards ceremony was gearing up (glad I did--rained nearly all the way home, long drive in the rain). There will be a story about it in Primitive Archer--they always sponser the selfbow challenge.
