Default RE: mixing it up

The rain will certainly help. Do you know what caused your last trees to die? Lack of water? Maybe a water tank on an atv or truck for 2-3 years will really help the trees to get established.

You should consider protecting the tree trunk from chewing rodents, and the branches from deer browsing. Look into plastic trunk protectors, and use fencing or chemical repellants to keep deer browsing down. Placing mulch or landscape fabric 2-3 ft around the tree trunk will also help keep grass and weeds from using the tree's water. Apple trees all require a pollinator of another variety, and some cherries do as well. Consider planting another apple tree of a different variety for best yields. What kind of berry bushes did you plant? Blueberries, for example, require a very low pH (4-5). The needs of some berries and apples (apples need good soil and a lot of calcium) can be very different.

Good luck! I am sure you can be successful. There are other guys here with great ideas as well.
