RE: Team # 20 Check In Thread
Well, it seems like the turkeys shut down here in Wisconsin for a few days. My dad's season opened up on Wednesday, and I went out with him the last two mornings. It was nothing like when i went scouting. When I scouted they were gobbling like crazy and strutting out in the fields. This season, we went out two mornings, and did not here one gobble. It was ridiculous. We saw a few hens, but all the toms seemed to have disappeared. This morning we went out until I had to leave to do some college credit testing. Then he went out by himself for a while. He didn't hear any gobbles and was about to give up. In desperation, he called as loud as he could to try and strike up a gobble, and suddenly one gobbled close by. He got his gun up, and by that time he could already see it moving through the brush. He waited until it got into an opening, and then gave it a taste of a 10 gauge magnum. It ended up being 23 pounds, with an 11 inch beard, and 1 1/8 inch spurs. It was a tough season, but it ended good for him. My season is next wednesday, and I can't wait. Hopefully they gobble a little though.
