Modern Bows are becoming increasingly hard to shoot with fingers. 2 things that are not good for shooting fingers is low holding weight, and short A to A because of the finger pinch.
I agree with the ATA but explain the other thing Dan.

To answer the question of the OP, I used a flipper rest when I was still shooting a compound. I hated the thought of a release so I never went that route.
Steve, IMO the lower holding weight makes it harder to get a clean release off of your fingers.

Instead of snapping off, it will have a tendency to roll off.
