I put in for Michigan's first season in zone K. And luckily I drew. Expecting a easy hunt, boy I was in for a surprise!
I started my hunt Monday Morning. I was in my blind by 0600, and I didn't leave untill 1000. I was back in my blind after work around 4:00 pm, and came out around 8:15 pm.. So I was averaging about 8 hours per day in my blind. I had several encounters with small jakes and chose to pass. In hopes of my first Eastern Longbeard. I took thursday and Friday off so I could hunt more hours of the day. All week has been dissapointment after dissapointment. And then this morning my buddy Dustin got his chance and shot his first turkey ever. He was on cloud nine! It was such a pleasure to share that experience with him. We had been hunting together all week. To say we have become close this week would be an understatement! He had to go so I just stayed in my blind hoping I would get the chance. Today was my last day to hunt, I had planned on staying all day if I had too. Well around 1:00 pm I saw a hen walking down the two track. And there he was. Right behind her. He saw my decoys and came right to me! I shot him at about ten feet! My Black Ice let it ring! And the slick tricks did there job! A sigh of relief, and some cold beers tonight! By far the hardest turkey hunt I have ever been on!
