If you aren't going to carry your gun fully loaded then you don't need to carry one. It will just get you killed.

I also would not choose a firearm as a carry gunthat had a manual safety that needed to be operated before the gun would fire. Because the odds are, the average person carrying for self defense will forget to flip the safety when they really needed to fire that firearm.
