Default RE: .270/Mule deer

Kansas...I use a .243 and dropped a whitetail at 277 ranged yards this year with the 100gr CoreLokt, so you have plenty of bullet for mule deer...

Now...This is important...Sight that .270 in for 2-3 inches high at 100 yards...Most of my hunting is over crop fields in eastern NC and in many fields I can see 800 yards or better...I try to keep shots within 300 yards...Sighted in say 2 1/2 high at 100 with that bullet you should be about 2 low at 250 and 5-6 low at 300...So at 250 you hold for a high shoulder shot and 300 hold on the back or just below...Now, you need to shoot your gun to see exactly how it works out, but that will be pretty close...

Sighting in a .270 dead on or an inch high at 100 yards is like putting rabbit ears on a 48 inch flat screen TV...

Second...Buy a good range finder...When looking over flat terrain it gets hard to guess distances once you get past 150 yards or so...With a range finder and the drop of the bullets you are shooting taped to the butt stock of that .270, you will be good to go...I'd practice out to 350 yards...
