RE: 1,472 °F to reactivate activated charcoal impregnated clothing
I am not too sure about this idea of using carbon to reduce the amount of sent a hunter gove off while out in the field.
While it may or may not reduce the amount by some small degree the question is – is that amount significant?
I just think of bird dogs as an example of why it might not be all too significant. In my experience a bird dog will very easily find a downed bird in heavy cover if the bird is still alive and breathing. If the bird has already been killed the dog will take far longer.
Why?
A bird that is alive is a breathing bird and there is a lot of odor associated with its breath. Thus the dog can easily find a breathing (alive) bird and will take longer to find a dead non-breathing bird as there is less of a sent trail to follow.
Presumably if you are hunting you are breathing. Ergo you are giving off lots of odor in doing such. Sentlock or any other product will not effectively reduce the amount of odor given off while breathing.
Now of course deer or other big game do not smell as well as dogs however they can still smell pretty well.
I suppose though one can always put forth the argument that you can’t control the breathing issue but that does not mean its invalid to try to control other odor sources even if they are less significant.
For myself I think I’ll save the money for tags, better optics, trail cams, camo, etc… and just shower before hunting using un-scented soap made by my lovely wife while always hunting with the find to my face!! the way my father taught me to hunt.
