Hey guys,
Just got back from spotting tonight and WOW. Three different piebald deer. I saw the piebald that I saw last year (the first one I had ever seen). She is now a beautiful 1-1/2 year old doe. Her colors are more brilliant and she seems to have gained more white. I got some really really awsome footage of her, I might put some still shots that I get off my video camera on here tommorow.
Then, I went out to an area that I had permission to hunt last year. This is where I filmed the MONSTER buck last year, and that big 8 point I had pics of on here earlier. Well, there I saw the other pie-bald that I had seen last week. This deer was born this spring. It appears to be a button buck. He was laying beside his brother/sister, which is a perfectly normal deer. I got tons of good footage of them also, and I got each of those two fawns on camera as they bed down. Well, right down the field about 150 yards, I spot ma-ma deer, and guess what, she is piebald. I didn' t get good footage of her, as she was further away and walking through some high weeds. She is a big, fat, healthy doe.
Now, other than these deer, I saw 5 different bucks. I got two of the five on camera. A small 10 point and a small 5 or 6 point that were feeding beside each other. One of the other bucks was a MONSTER buck, he was hanging out in the back of the field where I saw the first piebald. I tried filming him, but, the spotlight was too dim, and the camera got too blurry for that distance (probablly 150 yards. I took binoculars thought and could tell he was atleast a 10 point. I would say low 140" class. The two other bucks I saw were pretty far off, and were nothing special.
So, what do you think the odds were of me having such a good night spotting? Three piebalds, 2-10 point bucks, and three smaller bucks. Plus numerous other does.
God, I love Pennsylvania. I just hope these deer keep reproducing. These piebalds are both on private property. One is in an area that we are allowed to spot, but nobody can hunt, so that deer is safe. The other one is in an area that only my friend and I have permission to hunt. I don' t think I would shoot that piebald as she was the one born this spring, but, you never know. That would be a pretty rare deer. [

][>:] I think I would pass her up though, and maybe in a few years, we would see a really good population of pie-balds.
