6) NEVER hunt alone, I have on occasion hunted by myself when I was younger, I was foolish and it didn't occur to me at the time that I might get out in the woods and get hurt. Always have a hunting partner and notify your family to where you are going, just in case of an emergency.
What about those of us who often simply don't have anyone to hunt with? Last season I hunted with my brother, but since my dad no longer hunts, and my brother lives 500 miles away, I don't have anyone to hunt with locally. Am I supposed to stay home? NOPE!!! I've got a cell phone, and I always let my wife know where I'll be hunting. If I don't call in within an hour or so after nightfall, she'll call me. If she can't get me, she'll call the DNR to come find me. If I'm a corpse...well at least they can put on my headstone that I died doing something I loved. There are worse ways to go.
