RE: mouth calls
I prefer the higher end calls. They sound better to my ears and tend to hold up better. I haven't bought any diaphrams from the big call companies in many years.Last year I used primarily the same diaphram the entire season and it didn't change pitch. Twenty years ago I would go through several Perfection or Quaker Boy calls a seaon as they would break down or the sound quality would deteriorate.
At the convention Saturday in Nashville I got a couple of the the Jim Pollard "Signiture Series" calls - Smackdown (raspy) and Batwing III (clearer, higher, breaks well with a mild raspy second note). Jim won the Grand National this year for the fourth time. Both are easy to use. If the season were starting tomorrow I would likely have that Batwing III in my mouth. The calls were 10 bucks apiece.
