IMO, as humble as it is, 30.06 would be my pick. The comment above on the cost of ammo is enuf to make me go that route. Then you have a gun and caliber for all seasons. To me the 30.06 is a the all around performer. I can buy ammo at the gas station if i need it. About as exotic as i get is the 7mm-08 which is my favorite. But if i had to choose one caliber? 30.06 would win for it's versatility.
