Why pay $20-$40 for a 50 round box of 25 caliber premium bullets when you can buy 100-30 caliber bullets for $20??
Premium bullets are simply not required for deer.Where I live,I can buy 100 Hornady .257" interlock bullets for less than a 100 Hornady interlocks in .308".
and the 30 caliber hunting bullet in 165 or 180 grain will do a better job??
The 100gr interlocks will kill deer just as dead as 165gr or 180gr .308" bullets.Dead is dead.
And are you guys saying that a 100 grain 25-06 bullet is as effective at 400 yards as a 165 grain 30 caliber Siera Gamer King??
The thread is dealing with deer hunting.I have killed deer at well over 400 yards with .257" bullets, and they do a great job.
If .308" bullets can provide clean kills on elk and moose at 400 yards, the .257" bullets are plenty for much smaller bodied deer.
Just how many deer have you personally killed with .257" bullets to make such statements?
Why are you attacking my post?? I did not recommend the premium bullets for the 257, some one else brought it up. However I did not feel the need to attack their specific post, I only pointed out the cost difference in the bullets??
As far as howmany deer have I shot with a 25 caliber(personally), I would guess that number to be about 15-20. I have owned 2 differnt 257 WBY's, and1 25-06, and I will never sell my 257 Roberts. I considermyself knowledgeable with the quarter bore.
I have chased several deer around the hill with the 25 caliber bullets. I rarely have to chase one with30 caliber bullets. If you can not understand how a larger diameter and heavier bullet would put a deer down faster, then it would be impossible for me to explain it to you.
I have said this before and I will say it again. The quarter bore is too small for the big stuff, and toobig for the small stuff. But that is just my opinion. And all I did was state my opininon. I did not personally attack yours, so why would you personally atack mine?? Tom.
