No seriously I understand your point, and you are right, but the majority of people no matter what they tell you still only shoot around 100 yards.
If you load the 100gr ballistic tip in the 25-06,and the 125gr ballistic tip in the 30-06,and sight in both for 200 yards,the 25-06 drops less at 300 yards,and the difference keeps increasing as the range increases.
For a deer only gun,I see no reason at all to use any .308" bullet in any cartridge,as the 25-06 has more than enough power for any deer,even at 500 yards.
